ABOUT OUR PROGRAM:

“Managing Allergens within the Food Industry”

Are you or someone you know allergic to certain foods? Have you ever wondered who monitors the use and labeling of allergens within the food industry? Food allergies are a growing public health concern in the United States with over 12 million Americans affected. Of those, the highest incidence occurs in children. In fact, reactions in children result in more than 300,000 ambulatory-care visits a year. Children must rely on parents for guidance, parents must rely on labels for guidance, and the food industry must rely on legislation for guidance. There are no cures for food allergies and so strict avoidance is imperative for those afflicted. Please join us Monday, September 13th for a discussion of food allergens and their effect on manufacturing, labeling, legislation, consumers and you.

Speaker Bio: Analee Rubio has over 20 years of experience in the food industry having graduated with a degree in Food Science from Penn State University. Her career began as a Research Scientist for Kraft Foods in Glenview, IL leading quality improvement projects and conducting product development experimentation for processed cheese foods. Approximately two and a half years later, her overall interest in Quality within manufacturing led her to Kraft’s production facility in Lehigh Valley, PA. Her work there continued successfully for the next 10 yrs as a Quality Supervisor in the Enhancements division, better known for Miracle Whip, salad dressing, BBQ sauces, etc. In 2002, Analee ventured away from Kraft launching a brief stint within the meat industry as a HACCP Coordinator focusing on the regulatory and food safety requirements as directed by the USDA. Then in late 2004, with what she deems a stroke of luck having spent 2 long years in the cold and wet, Analee was hired by Just Born, Inc where she is currently working as a Sr. Technical Services Manager.
